Our maple taffy is just one flavor of many we make at our family-owned and operated company in Salt Lake City, Utah. For over 100 years, we've been whipping up the nation's favorite salt water taffy. At Taffy Town, we believe our unique process sets our taffy apart from all the rest. We make each and every flavor special by using a whipping process that results in a softer, chewier piece of candy. You'll find our fluffy taffy has an addicting texture and delicious flavor that will keep you coming back for more!

The History of Maple Taffy

Did you know that maple taffy is a treat that has been around for centuries? It started as a method of preserving food among the indigenous peoples in eastern Canada. Later, it was adopted by French settlers who came into the area. Many believe maple taffy originated around Quebec, where maple trees thrive. This tradition of making maple taffy is still done in many locations across Canada at sugar shacks. Sugar shacks are rustic log cabins where maple sap is boiled down into syrup and taffy. When visiting a sugar shack, you'll have the opportunity to stock up on many maple treats, including the taffy.

First, maple trees must be tapped to collect the sap. Once the maple sap has been collected, it's boiled for hours until it has reached a specific temperature. Then it's poured onto snow and rolled up with a wooden stick for everyone to enjoy. If you love our maple taffy, you're sure to love the original that has been around for quite some time! Try making your own version of this traditional treat at home with your family.

Maple Syrup Taffy Recipe

Are you wondering how you can make maple taffy at home? Taffy on snow, also commonly known as "tire sur la neige" in Canada, is a simple way to enjoy pure maple flavor, and you can make it in just minutes!

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups - Pure Maple Syrup
  • 15 Popsicle Sticks
  • 4 Cups - Clean Snow

Directions

Step 1 - Start by packing clean, fresh snow onto a rimmed baking sheet. Finely shaved or crushed ice can be used if you don't have fresh snow. Place in the freezer to stay cold.

Step 2 - Pour syrup into a small saucepan with a candy thermometer clipped to the side. Bring to a boil and cook syrup until the temperature reaches the soft-ball stage, about 240° F.

Step 3 - Grab your rimmed tray full of snow out of the freezer. Pour the syrup in thin lines into the snow, about a few tablespoons at a time, and 5-6 inches long. Place the popsicle stick on one end of the line and roll up the taffy around the popsicle stick.

Step 4 - Repeat as needed until the syrup is gone. The taffy can be kept in an airtight container for up to two days. Enjoy!
